National Centre of Excellence for Home Economics
The National Centre of Excellence for Home Economics provides a key platform for the future growth and development of the academic discipline Home Economics and acknowledges the historical importance and existing prominence of the discipline at ATU St Angela’s. The Centre encapsulates distinguished academic expertise in the discipline Home Economics and will be a vehicle through which the teaching and research strengths of Home Economics will continue to be progressively developed and extended.
On Friday 19th March 2021, the School of Home Economics was delighted to officially launch the National Centre of Excellence for Home Economics by Minister Frank Feighan, Minister of State with responsibility for Public Health, Well Being and National Drugs Strategy as well as distinguished Guest Speakers. Centre Mission
The Centre is recognised nationally and internationally for excellence in the scholarship of teaching and learning and advancement of Home Economics discipline specific knowledge base through exemplary research, while also empowering innovative and enriching engagement with educational, commercial and community partners to improve the lives of individuals, families and communities. The Centre consolidates capacity in the discipline Home Economics and facilitates the offering of specialist programmes, teaching and research in the field.
The work of the Centre encapsulates the following three pillars:
Teaching and Learning
Continue to enhance and expand undergraduate and Postgraduate Home Economics programme provision at ATU St Angela’s.
Internationalise existing programmes and strengthen international footprint of the Centre
Research and Innovation
Build on the current research base of the discipline Home Economics by continuing to submit research tenders for funding, both individually and collaboratively.
Community Engagement
Expand and extend community engagement initiatives.
Continue to advocate for and lead policy development nationally and internationally which impacts on individual and family wellbeing and health.
