Chris Gannon
Graduate of the BEng (Hons) in Automation and Digital Manufacturing
I chose to do this course because we had a skill shortage, and I wasn't as fluent with software and robotics as what I thought I was. The outcomes from the course was primarily programming, it was the use of the different languages that allowed you to interface and integrate robotics into larger automated assemblies.
The delivery of information usually on the online classes were usually very irrelevant to what we would be doing on site that week so it was important to get, kind of get a good grasp of it. There was a few modules that I thought I would absolutely hate. What I found was, once I applied myself to it, I actually came up with a course that's actually not that bad.
I found it very useful to be on site one day a week. So that's where then I could sit down with the teachers and the lecturers. So that means I could ask them when I got stuck, and you always get stuck, especially when it's new content you don't know. These were people who had come from the industry, and they were at the very top of their game, so they knew exactly what they were doing.
