Course Overview
Under the Safety Health & Welfare at Work Act and Fire Services Act, building owners, managers and those with designated responsibility for fire safety have a statutory obligation to ensure fire safety standards are appropriately maintained in all buildings. The course is offered entirely online over a 3 day lecture block with follow up tutorials and assessment.
This course aims to promote the practice of good fire safety management as a vital tool in the overall fire safety strategy of building management. The assessment introduces learners to legislative obligations and maintenance programmes as part of this strategy. Teaching and assessment methodologies will be by block online learning combined with online support and assessment, incorporating a blended learning approach.
On successful completion of the module the learner will be able to:
- Interpret the legal obligations in respect of Fire Safety Management in building use.
- Define the role of active and passive fire safety systems in maintaining adequate levels of fire safety in buildings
- Interpret and implement appropriate fire safety management policy and procedures within buildings of normal to moderate complexity.
- Appraise the impact of fire safety management policies in their own work environment The aim of the course is to equip the learner with the skills and qualification to fulfill his/ her legal obligations as Fire Safety Manager within his/ her own organisation.

Entry Requirements
A Level 6 (NFQ) or equivalent by recognition of prior learning (RPL) for mature learners would be the expected norm in terms of entry requirements. Experience of facilities management or maintenance is desirable.
