Course Overview
Property Services is Auctioneering, Estate Agency, Property Management, Property Valuations, and Planning for all types of property such as residential housing, apartment blocks, commercial such as retail, offices, industrial, development land, hotels and other trading assets.
Facilities Management (FM) deals with both the Hard and Soft FM. Asset Management, Property Maintenance and Facility Management. A Facilities Manager deals with Life cycle costings and maintenance, energy management, the introduction and management of renewable technologies, risk and cost management, management of legal requirements, health and safety of buildings (fire safety etc), budgeting and future planning. Lastly, a Facilities Manager with deal with external contract management.
This programme is fully accredited by the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI) which has direct links with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). Once chartered with the SCSI, graduates will be enabled to work anywhere in the world.

Property Sales, Lettings and MarketingThe aim of this module provides comprehensive knowledge of services offered by estate agents with particular emphasis on property sales, lettings and marketing. It is designed to provide the learner with an in-depth knowledge of the role and duties of the estate agent. The module explores the various methods of sale as well as the policies and procedures that the agent is required to follow for good practice. A comprehensive understanding of the essential marketing documentation required in the process of sale or letting of any property. This module will outline the office administrational duties of the day-to-day operations of a property firm. Learning Outcomes 1. Identify and appraise the roles and duties of the estate agent. 2. Scrutinise the methods of sale,the policies and procedures that the agent is required to adhere to. 3. Classify the various types of effective communication and negotiation skills between agents and clients. Determine the appropriate conflict management methods. 4. Recommend theessentialmarketing documentation requiredin the process ofsale or letting of any property. 5. Evaluatethe importance of efficientmanagement and office administration in the operationof a property firm. |

Project Feasibility and AppraisalThis module gives the learner an overview of project appraisal and its use in the construction industry. It examines the critical process of decision-making and its position in the project planning process. This module will introduce the student to various methods used for engineering project feasibility and appraisal, with particular emphasis on; Net Present worth, Equivalent Annual Worth and Minimum Rate of Return techniques. Learning Outcomes 1. Assess, recognise and demonstrate an appreciation of the role that project appraisal plays in the construction sector. 2. Appraise the various decision-making models and evaluate their use in the construction industry. 3. Evaluate the project planning process relative to the construction industry. 4. Identify, then compare and contrast, different methods for engineering project appraisal and make recommendations on their use. 5. Demonstrate a knowledge of analysing, evaluating and apprising of proposed project options by using the main economic appraisal techniques. |

Introduction to Planning and DevelopmentThis module is an introductory course in planning and development. The syllabus is broad in scope and practical in nature. It provides students with an understanding of key principles in planning as well as the key features of the Irish planning system. The aim of this module is to provide the students with a knowledge of the practice and procedures of the Irish Planning System and the appeals process. Learning Outcomes 1. Examine thekey principles ofplanning policy and the key features of the Irish planning system. 2. Demonstrate anunderstanding of Urban and Rural land planning policies. 3. Apply the principle of good design and sustainable development. 4. Explain the planning process and apply planning procedures to a theoretical development proposal. 5. Evaluate the appeals procedure of the planning system. |

Investment ValuationsThe aim of this module is to build on the learners understanding of valuation principles and their application. The module will focus on Investment Valuations and illustrate the appraisal of such valuations. On completion of this module the learner will have the knowledge to assess investment valuations, identify the variables, carry out an investment valuation and make recommendations on same. Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate an understanding of investment valuations and the variables in the process. 2. Analyse Investment comparables and incorporate them in the valuation process. 3. Develop and prepare a leasehold valuation 4. Apply valuation methodology as appropriate to varying situations. 5. Construct a discounted cash flow analysis of a property investment to obtain the Net Present Value and the Internal Rate of Return in respect of that investment. |

Commercial Real Estate Mgmt and LeasesThe aim of this module is to provide the learner with an in-depth knowledge of property management practice to enable them to enter a role as a Property Manager. The module will cover important topics such a Landlord and Tenant Law and Service Charge Budgets. Learning Outcomes 1. Examine and interpret Landlord & Tenant Law. 2. Evaluate Commercial leases and the important sections to review in any situation. 3. Scrutinise the contents and the breakdown of a Service Charge Budget. 4. Explain Sinking Funds and appraise the management of same. 5. Analyse and distinguishthe differences between the variousmethods of company assistance. |

Capstone Project – Property DevelopmentThis module is designed as a total problem based learning experience to develop students' critical thinking, analytical, ethical and problem solving skills required of property professionals working in a modern, complex built environment. Students will work as part a team on a multifaceted property development project while being facilitated by lecturers. Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate an awareness of and articulate a personal knowledge base of principles, practice and theories-in-use from cognate modules. 2. Develop self-directed learning with respect to professional transferrable skills. 3. Provide strategic and reasoned advice, including the preparation and presentation of reports with reference to cost, time, quality and other related deliverables. 4. Evaluate their decision making process and defend evidenced basedcourses of action. 5. Synthesisein a logical and coherent manner crediblesolutions to complex multifaceted problems. 6. Reflect critically on their practice and procedure. |
