Course Overview

Ireland is a highly developed service economy, where the public expects prompt, efficient and high-quality service from service organisations. This module is aimed at individuals working in a service environment (public or private sector) or who aspire to a career in service management.

It examines the nature of services and develops an approach to managing and delivering service that focuses on service processes and design, managing the public interface and improving service quality.

The approach will take account of different contexts in the private and public sector, encouraging students to apply their learning to their professional context.

Analyse the nature and context of services in the public/private sectors. 2. Assess service users needs and design the service approach accordingly. 3. Examine the role of front-line and support staff in the public/private sectors and assess the requirements for good management of these key personnel. 4. Design efficient, effective and sustainable service processes and communication strategies in a private/public sector context. 5. Define service quality and use tools to measure and improve service quality in a public/private sector context.	15	Mandatory

Students are encouraged to engage in study time outside the timetabled delivery of the course.

100% continuous assessment.

On-Campus Attendance Requirement

Students will attend classroom-based learning at the ATU Mayo Campus for two days per month throughout the academic year. This will also include learning through online engagement.

Progression

Graduates of this programme often continue to complete the Certificate in Supervisory Management.

Entry Requirements

Mature students

Mature applicants are welcome and encouraged to apply. A mature student is a EU nationals aged 23 on or before 1st January, of the year of entry.

Mature Applicants (who have not met the Leaving Certificate entry requirements/points are considered on an individual basis and must provide a Statement of Interest (CV) to be assessed upon, relevant work experience and demonstrate the ability and competence to undertake the course.

They may be invited for interview for the course. International students holding cognate qualifications at the appropriate level will be considered for entry.

The School also engages with the International Office as required to map progression from partner colleges abroad. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) can be used as a means to gain entry to the programme or gain exemptions in accordance with the relevant Code of Practice (Policy and Procedures for the Recognition of Prior Learning). Prior learning can be certified or experiential and will be assessed in accordance with the code.

Individual applicants will be assessed on a case-by-case basis in line with the relevant RPL policy. Overall students will have to meet the entry requirements as indicated in the relevant Academic Code of Practice on (Access, Transfer and Progression), at any given time.

Leaving certificate requirements

The minimum Leaving Certificate entry requirement of Grade O6/H7 or better in five Leaving Certificate subjects including Mathematics and English or Irish with a minimum of 160 points will be eligible for entry. A pass in any QQI FET Major award at Level 5 or 6 will meet the minimum entry requirement for this programme.
