Course Overview
Organisations have a legal responsibility to manage health and safety and to do this they must delegate responsibility to managers, line management, supervisors, team leaders and operators to actively manage health and safety. This Special Purpose Award in Occupational Safety and Health (SPA OSH) is specifically designed for employers, employees or persons who require some knowledge in how to manage occupational safety and health risks.
While everyone has a responsibility for health and safety in the workplace some personnel require a general knowledge and competence in this area. If you provide general guidance to other employees on health and safety,or have an integral responsibility to manage health and safety aspects associated with the workplace or work activities then this course is for you. It will equip you with the knowledge and skills to perform this function and allow you to seamlessly integrate safety and health practical education into your daily and working life.

An advantage for employers is the minimum disruption to the workplace and the avoidance of costly expenses associated with traditional health and safety training courses. This course is a 12 week course delivered through online lectures and resource materials which are available 24/7 to the learner. Assessments are completed online during the course with progress closely monitored and supported by the academic team. Typically lectures occur online one evening per week for approximately two hours, with opportunities to ask questions and interact similar to a real classroom experience. Alternatively the live recordings can be accessed for repeat viewing at any time. Participants require a broadband service to access the material and participate on the course.

Foundations for Occupational Safety and HealthThis module is aimed at those who require some knowledge of occupational safety and health (OSH). It is especially for those who have any responsibility for the general management of health and safety aspects associated with their work place or work activities or for providing general guidance to other employees on health and safety. The module aims to provide an overview of the main issues in OSH and the legislative context in which employers and employees must operate. Learning Outcomes 1. Outlinethe legalframework and requirements for Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) within organisations. 2. Identify basic hazards in the workplace and outline how a risk assessment would be conducted. 3. Identify physical, chemical, biological, psychosocial and ergonomic hazards. 4. Outline appropriate strategies for the management of basic OSH risk. 5. Detailhow accidents should be investigated in the workplace and demonstrate anunderstanding of root cause analysis. |
