Fundamental Theology and Foundational EthicsThis module examines an overview of Catholic moral theology moral theology and fundamental tenets of Catholic faith. The Foundational Ethics dimension of this module explores the relationship between religious belief and ethical behaviour. In this Module an attempt will be made to articulate the questions posed by human existence to-day, as well as the question of God. Learning Outcomes 1. Critically explore the notions of faith, belief, theology, revelation, religion; 2. Present a coherent response to the fundamental human question: ‘who am I?’ 3. Outline the key moral principles of Catholic moral theology 4. Explain the role of conscience in Catholic moral discourse 5. Demonstrate an understanding of ethics and its relationship to religion |

Ecclesiology and Sacramental TheologyThis Module examines the social composition of religion and religious expression, with a focus on the development and understanding of the Christian church. It critically examines how faith communities celebrate in a variety of contexts, with a focus on the Christian liturgical and sacramental tradition. Learning Outcomes 1. Interpret the development of the early Christian community 2. Explain the historical development of what has become known as the Christian church 3. Assess a range of understandings of the Christian church 4. Articulate the role played by individual and communal prayer 5. Evaluate the significance of religious celebrations and cycles within the Catholic tradition |

Biblical Studies and Biblical ChristologyThis module will explore the Sacred Texts of the Catholic Church (Old and New Testament) and their interpretation, beginning with the background of the biblical world, and examining how these texts might be explored in the primary school setting. Secondly, the module will explore a wide variety of responses to, and interpretations of Jesus, seeking to respond to the question, "Who is Jesus?" Learning Outcomes 1. Examine the main stages in the formation of the biblical tradition and interpret the books of the Bible as literature and sacred text 2. Articulate the relationships between the Old and New Testaments 3. Critically analyse the Gospel of Mark 4. Demonstrate and in depth knowledge of the main characters, events, and themes of the Old Testament 5. Articulate the significance of Jesus for Christians 6. Critically analyse the quests for the historical Jesus 7. Evaluate the impact of culture on interpretations of Jesus |

RE in the Primary ClassroomThis module will build on the knowledge and understanding gained within other modules in the programme in order to develop within the participants the knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes appropriate to delivering the Grow in Love Primary School Religious Education Programme and to develop the knowledge and skills of the participants in sacramental preparation. Learning Outcomes 1. Introduce the participants to the theological and educational underpinnings of the Grow in Love Programme. 2. Facilitate the participants in drawing up schemes of work and lesson plans based on the Grow in Love Programme 3. Assist the participants in teaching parts of the Grow in Love Programme through tutorial support. 4. Familiarise participants with the process of preparation for First Holy Communion and the sacraments of Reconciliation and Confirmation. 5. Explore the educational and catechetical issues in sacramental preparation. 6. Support the participants in a piece of coursework related to the Grow in Love Programme or sacramental preparation. |
