Course Overview

The Certificate in Science in Quality Management provides a strong foundation in Quality Management philosophies and their application, Quality Management systems and general management principles in manufacturing and service organisations.

This Certificate in Quality, along with (a) the Certificate in Quality & Regulatory Affairs and (b) Certificate in Quality for Industry – Statistics & Management, make up the Bachelor of Science (Ordinary) Degree in Quality for Industry.

Year	Quality Management Part I Quality Assurance systems and general management principles in manufacturing and service organizations. Learning Outcomes 1. Have a good knowledge of quality management principles. 2. Explain how quality is managed in a manufacturing and service organization. 3. Explain the methodology of quality improvement and apply various tools and techniques for analysis of quality. 4. Apply a range of problem solving tools. 5. Use statistical basic process control tools 6. Understand the ISO 9000 quality management standards 7. Complete audits against elements of the ISO standard	10	Mandatory

Year	Quality Management Part II Quality Management philosophies and their application. Learning Outcomes 1. Have a thorough knowledge of the philosophies of quality management and their place in todays quality movement. 2. Critically analyze and improve their own communication skills and to understand the importance of communication in the world of quality. 3. Understand the role of leadership, human resource management, customer focus and team work in promoting and achieving quality standards in an organization. 4. Critically analyze an organization and design and implement various systems and procedures with regard to quality management in that organization. 5. Critically review new developments in quality and apply them as necessary. 6. Interpret and describe industry specific standards appropriate to the students field of work including for example ISO 13485 7. Analyse and apply a range of process management, continuous improvement, Lean and Six Sigma tools and concepts, financial and performance measures in quality management.	10	Mandatory

Recommended Study Hours per week

It is recommended that students should try to allow for 5-6 hours per week per 5-credit module to their studies.

Examination and Assessment

Combination of continuous assessment and final assessments/exam.
Note: Where assessment on the programme involves examinations, these are held on campus or at another exam venue in the Republic of Ireland. There are typically two exam periods: January and May. Times scheduled for examinations (face to face / online exams ) are in GMT.

On-Campus Attendance Requirement

Typically, blended delivery includes 3-4 on campus classes per semester which takes in to account the context of the module under instruction.

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements:

Applicants must hold a minimum of a major award at Level 6 (Higher Certificate) to be eligible to apply for the Level 7 Special Purpose Award.
It is a prerequisite, that you have passed Quality Management 1 before you can start Quality Management 2, Six Sigma or the Project modules.

The Certificate in Science in Quality Management helps those in operator roles to move into Quality roles such as in inspection and quality assurance.

The Bachelor of Science in Quality for Industry helps people obtain promotion to Line Leader/ Supervisor roles.
