Course Overview
The aim of the programme is to provide an introduction to the theory and application of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) with a particular focus on their application in the regional context. The programme aims to build core knowledge and develop a thorough awareness of the SDG framework. The programme aims to encourage knowledge of and reflection on how the SDG framework can be applied in a local context to encourage the implementation of environmentally sustainable, living and working practices, that support a just transition to more equitable society.

SDGs and PARTNERSHIPAccording to the United Nations, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a "blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They represent an urgent call to action for all countries to join a global partnership. The SDGs cover a wide-range of topics and can be described thematically using the "P" nomenclature under the headings of "People", "Planet", "Prosperity" and "Partnership". This module provides an introduction to the SDGs and focusses on the theme of Partnership and the importance of regional context in achieving the goals. Learning Outcomes 1. Articulate the aims and purposes of the UN SDGs. 2. Demonstrate knowledge of the application of selected SDGs in a regional context 3. Demonstrate knowledge of the inter-relationships between the fourthematic areas 4. Advocate the importance of partnership in achieving theSDGs with a focus on regional context. |

SDGs and PEOPLEThis module provides an introduction to the SDGs (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) focussing on the theme of PEOPLE and the importance of regional context in achieving the goals. The focus of SDG1 Zero Poverty is on ending poverty in all its forms everywhere. The focus of SDG2 Zero Hunger is on ending hunger, achieving food security, improving nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture. The focus of SDG3 Good Health and Wellbeing is on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages. The focus of SDG4 Quality Education is on ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. The focus of SDG5 Gender Equality is on achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls. In this module these topics are examined within a regional context. The module provides the learner with insight into how global challenges can be tackled at a local level, with the aim of empowering individual learners to become informed and responsible global citizens. SDGs and PLANETThis module provides an introduction to the SDGs (6, 12, 13, 14, 15) focussing on the theme of Planet and the importance of regional context in achieving the goals. The focus of SDG6 Clean Water and Sanitation is on ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for everyone. The focus of SDG12 Responsible Consumption & Production is on developing and committing to sustainable consumption and production practices. The focus of SDG13 Climate Action is on taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. The focus of SDG14 Life Below Water is on protecting and sustainably exploiting our oceans, seas and marine resources. The focus of SDG15 Life on Land is on protecting, restoring and promoting sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, reversing land degradation and halting biodiversity loss. In this module these topics are examined within a regional context. The module provides the learner with insight into how global challenges can be tackled at a local level, with the aim of empowering individual learners to become informed, reflective and responsible global citizens. SDGs and PROSPERITYThis module provides an introduction to the SDGs (7,8, 9, 10, 11) focussing on the theme of PROSPERITY and the importance of regional context in achieving the goals. The focus of SDG7 is to realise accesses to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all The focus of SDG8 is to promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all The focus of SDG9 is to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation The focus of SDG10 is to reduce inequality within and among countries The focus of SDG11 is to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable In this module these topics are examined within a regional context. Entry Requirements
The full programme consists of 20 credits (4 x 5 credit modules). The partnership module is mandatory and must be completed before undertaking the remaining three modules (People, Planet and Prosperity).

This programme provides an opportunity for students to gain an accredited qualification in sustainability focused on the regional application of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The programme content has been designed to be trans-disciplinary and the implementation of the learning outcomes are applicable in wide range of fields including education, healthcare, business, manufacturing, hospitality public sector administration and the built environment. Graduates from this programme will be provided with valuable knowledge that can be used and applied in their workplaces to support national sectoral and institutional efforts to achieve a sustainable and just future for all.
