Course Overview
The Higher Diploma in Leadership and Wellbeing in the Workplace will be of interest to a diverse audience, from all discipline areas, where applicants could be from anywhere in the country. Learners will become part of increasingly multi skilled teams in the workplace. We will equip our graduates to be able to work effectively in contemporary workflow settings.
The innovative programme is designed to enable managers and employees across all sectors to integrate wellbeing into their working environments. Leadership in areas such as wellbeing are becoming increasingly important for companies to maintain a content and productive workforce. The programme equips graduates to lead, integrate and promote wellbeing among their staff and peers. No exams, 100% Continuous Assessment. Students can elect to do one or many modules. Each module is a standalone Certificate.

Leadership & Behaviour ChangeThis module promotes the adoption of a democratic and critically reflective approach to personal professional development and ethical democratic leadership. Students will be able to identify change theory concepts in relation to real world scenarios of change in the workplace. Leadership styles and behaviours that can support the management of change in an ethical and legal manner will be addressed. Students will recognise the leader’s role in establishing organisational culture and appropriate change management processes. Skill development as an effective change leader will be demonstrated through report writing on a workplace case study. Learning Outcomes 1. Pro-actively manage peoples reaction to change, including inevitable resistance. |

Employee Mental WellbeingThis module aims to develop students' understanding of psychological well-being and mental health disorders in the context of the workplace. Organisational, social, psychological and biological factors influencing mental health will be analysed. The module will explore the role and responsibilities of the organisation and strategies for assessing workforce wellbeing and creating a culture supportive of positive mental health. The module is underpinned by an inclusive, culture-aware and trauma informed approach. Learning Outcomes 1. Critically consider positive mental health mental health problems and identify indicators of distress (including anxiety, depression). |

Digital WellbeingThis module identifies major concepts related to Digital Health and Well-being in the workplace. It examines the relationship between digital well-being and physical and mental health. It also explores the impact of digital well-being on a number of key domains including governance, social development, education and health care. Learning Outcomes 1. Critically discuss Digital Health and Well-being. |

Physical Activity and Wellbeing PromotionThis module aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to identify the factors influencing the multi-dimensional aspects of health and well-being. In particular, it serves to highlight the importance of physical activity for health and wellbeing in the workplace setting. Learning Outcomes 1. Analyse the effects of the determinants of health and appraise the core principles and approaches required for effective health promotion practice in the workplace. |

Citizenship in the WorkplaceThis module serves to ensure consideration is given to the evolving framework governing the substantive matters of citizenship and how this interacts with workplace practice. In the first instance this will involve consideration of the integral role that the Irish Constitution plays in governing the legal order and how this practically interacts with workplace governance. The evolving issues regarding digital citizenship will in turn be examined and key issues including cyber anonymity will be assessed alongside digital footprints and online etiquette. Finally substantive legal issues pertaining to rights and responsibilities of employers and employees alike will be examined, cognisant of emerging matters and dynamic change within existing spheres. Learning Outcomes 1. Critically appraise and develop strategies for equity, diversity and inclusivity in the workplace. |

EmployabilityThe aim of this module is to focus learners of their career journey, to identify employment opportunities and develop capabilities that will optimise chances in the labour market. Entry Requirements
QQI level 8 award, or equivalent qualification, and/or relevant life and work experience.
QQI level 7 award and three years relevant experience.
Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL) will be granted based on relevant experience and training in accordance with ATU Donegal’s RPL policy.
