3D Modelling and SculptingIn this module the student will be introduced to the core principles of modelling and sculpting 3D assets. Working from concept art the students will create game assets and characters for various 3D environments and ready the final outcomes for use in further stages of the production pipeline. It will provide an insight into the pipelines related to key 3D technologies. Learning Outcomes 1. Utilise concept design documents for use in a 3D modelling package |

3D Texturing and RenderingIn the module the student will learn to develop shaders in 3D packages using images created digitally and procedurally. Shaders can contain multiple images and parameters to control their visual output and complex textures such as normal maps and displacement maps are commonly needed to create content for 3D environments. Different types of textures will be introduced and developed using digital sculpting and imaging software. Rendering will be covered using industry standard engines and techniques. The student will learn to output the key passes needed to create a fully rendered image for animation or special effects. Lighting and scene efficiency will also be introduced here. Learning Outcomes 1. Create textures for environments and models |

Emerging 3D Technologies (Research)3D environments for both production and consumption are constantly in flux. This module examines current and possible future trends in the industry and introduces these new technologies to the student. The key will be the analyses of technologies and the understanding of the pipelines involved in creating content for them. Learning Outcomes 1. Reflect on technological change in the industry |

Emerging 3D Technologies (Development)3D environments for both production and consumption are constantly in flux. This module examines current and possible future trends in the industry and introduces these new technologies to the student with a view to developing content for them. The module focuses on the 3D creation pipeline for technologies with a view to creating a working porotype with a 3D environment or creating content for placing within it. This module will rely on newly developed platforms and technologies for 3D. It will be informed in part by the accompanying Emerging Technologies (Research) module. Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate the limitation and opportunities of new 3D platforms |
