Atlantic Technological University (ATU) opens applications for the 2024/2025 1916 Bursary, a financial support initiative designed to aid socio-economically disadvantaged students entering higher education for the first time.

The 1916 Bursary is part of a national effort to improve access to third-level education for under-represented and economically challenged groups.

The Bursary aims to support those who face significant financial barriers, offering students three levels of financial aid: Tier 1: €5,000 per annum, Tier 2: €2,000 per annum and Tier 3: A one-off payment of €1,500.

Students who receive Tier 1 or 2 bursaries during their undergraduate studies can continue receiving support for postgraduate studies. The number of bursaries is limited, and awards will be focused on those with the greatest need.

Tara Birmingham, WNW Connect Cluster Coordinator based at ATU, highlighted the transformative potential of the Bursary:

"The 1916 Bursary exists to make sure that those who face the greatest barriers to education have a fair opportunity to succeed. We encourage all eligible students to apply and access the support they need to reach their full potential at ATU. The team at ATU is available for guidance, providing help with applications and information on student support."

For more information, including full eligibility criteria and application guidelines, visit the ATU's 1916 Bursary information web page- https://www.atu.ie/scholarships/1916BursaryFund.

Applications close on 10 October 2024
