The BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition is an annual event that showcases projects from students across Ireland, promoting interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

In January 2024, ATU sponsored the award for the “Best use of technology for sharing understanding of a subject or issue,” which was presented to Seán O’Sullivan, a secondary school student from Coláiste Chiaráin, Croom, Co Limerick.

Seán’s project, titled “VerifyMe: A new approach to authorship attribution in the post-ChatGPT era,” explored the development of artificial intelligence to detect if a writer is using AI software such as ChatGPT. Sean went on to win the overall BT Young Scientist & Technology event in 2024.

ATU’s involvement in BTYSTE reflects the university’s commitment to fostering technological innovation and education in STEM fields. Speaking ahead of the BT Young Scientist Exhibition, Fiona Kelly, Marketing Manager for ATU, said, “The university’s participation in the event demonstrates the university’s’ national interest and provides an opportunity to promote the wide range of programmes available at ATU to a large audience of attendees.”

The 2025 exhibition takes place from Thursday, 9 January to Saturday, January 11, at the RDS in Dublin. The ATU team will be located at stand W31, to find out more about the event visit https://btyoungscientist.com/
