ATU Partnership with Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (AGSI)
The Department of Law, Public Service and Education in Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Donegal is delighted to announce a partnership with the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (AGSI). The collaboration between AGSI and ATU Donegal developed Ireland’s first accredited third-level programme on conflict resolution.
The aim of the programme, which goes on for a duration of 12 weeks, is to grant members of the Gardaí the opportunity to enhance their skills and gain additional knowledge of managing conflict efficiently whilst in challenging environments.
Acknowledging the need to increase their competency in conflict solving, AGSI sought after an accredited programme that would provide further insight, this is where the partnership with ATU Donegal was formed.
General Secretary of AGSI, Antoinette Cunningham stated “ATU Donegal have been responsive and recognise the unique nature of our work and with us have developed an excellent Level 7 Certificate equivalent to Ordinary Degree Level.”
Siobhan Cullen, Head of Department of Law, Public Service and Education expressed delight in the new programme “It is a privilege to partner with AGSI to support its members by providing accredited training whilst enhancing skills to meet the demands of the constantly evolving dispute-resolution environment.’’
As 25 Sergeants and Inspectors have undertaken the programme to date, it is anticipated the course will be of growing demand amongst members of the Gardaí in years to come.
