ATU researchers recognised among top scientists in Materials Science

Atlantic Technological University (ATU) announces that two of its researchers, Prof Suresh Pillai and Dr Umar Khan, have been acknowledged among the best scientists in the field of Materials Science in Ireland, with a ranking of 14 and 27 respectively. The results were published on the leading international education platform, Research.com recently.

Position in the ranking is based on each scientist’s D-index using data compiled from OpenAlex and CrossRef by 21 November 2023.

This ranking lists all the best researchers from the Materials Science discipline and affiliated with Atlantic Technological University.

With a national ranking of 14, Prof Suresh Pillai was recognised for his expertise in nanotechnology and bio-engineering. His high ranking is due to an impressive D-index of 59, along with over 19,000 citations and 164 publications. Prof Pillai's research focuses on nanomaterials for energy and environmental applications, contributing to advancements in sustainable materials and green energy production.

Dr Umar Khan, ranked 27 nationally, has made remarkable strides in nano-graphene exfoliation and its applications in biomedical devices and wearable electronics. His notable D-index of 42 with 32,458 citations and over 60 publications in renowned journals highlight his significant impact on the scientific community. Dr Khan's work has been recognised internationally, including being listed among the Top 1% scientists by Web of Science.

Dr Des Foley, Acting Vice-President for Research and Innovation at ATU congratulated Professor Pillai and Dr Khan on their achievements;

“As ATU increases the capacity and impact of its research, it is important to acknowledge and celebrate the achievement of Prof Pillai and Dr Khan. They are leaders in our university community spearheading research in materials science, and they demonstrate the level of expertise and knowledge which we will continue to grow as ATU develops in the future.”
