The retreat is framed by the 6 Cs—Culture, Curriculum, Campus, Community, Collaborative Research, and Care – offering a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to embedding sustainability across educational systems. Participants will engage in a blend of workshops, peer collaboration sessions, and cultural activities, all aimed at equipping attendees with practical tools and strategies for incorporating sustainability into their institutions.
The event will feature contributions from leading figures in sustainability and education, including Dr Mark Kelly, HEA Policy Advisor on Education for Sustainability and Head of ATU Galway-Mayo Centre for Sustainability, Dr Dermot O’Donovan, Head of the Department of Creative Education at ATU, Dr John Scahill, Academic Developer and Lecturer at the Department of Building and Civil Engineering, and Dr Noelle Higgins, Head of ATU Galway-Mayo Teaching and Learning Centre.
“This retreat aims to build a dynamic community of practice across our EU Green Alliance that will inform how we can holistically integrate sustainability into our academic frameworks and beyond,” says Dr. Mark Kelly.
On completion and in tandem with extra online learning, attendees will be awarded a 10 credit ATU Certificate in Education for Sustainability at Masters’ level.
Participants will also engage in sustainability-themed excursions and explore the rich cultural offerings of Galway City. The retreat will promote not only knowledge exchange but also personal connections among sustainability-minded professionals and stakeholders.
