Great turn out at ATU Galway Careers Service Business Fair (8 Oct) and STEM Fair (15 Oct)

Leading employers in Accounting, Business, Computing, Engineering, Science and Technology in attendance

Over 50 local and regional employers met with crowds of students and graduates at two recent Career Fairs, hosted by Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Careers Service in its Galway city campus.

The first event (8 Oct) was attended by employers in Accounting, Financial Services, Retail, Technology, and Marketing & Sales and the second event (15 Oct) by employers from the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths-related (STEM) sector.

Dave Byrne, Ireland Research & Development ManagerSOTI Ireland Limited, says: “It is good to be here again this year, meeting tonnes of students. It is really important for us to hire from our universities, keeping the talent that is in the west – in the west.  We have already been very lucky to hire over four graduates from ATU and we are hoping to hire more from this event”.

Representatives were also present from the ATU Online and Further Professional Development Department (OFPD), discussing the range of postgraduate and flexible learning options offered by ATU.

Fiona O’Donnell, ATU Galway Careers Officer, says: “It is always great to see enthusiastic engagement between our students and industry representatives who provide up to the minute information on graduate programmes, work placement and internship opportunities, as well as update on all the latest labour market trends. Companies referenced how focused and well-prepared students were beforehand and praised the inclusion of student ambassadors for their assistance. It is a testament to ATU students and graduates that many of the same companies return to these events each year.”

This year saw an increase of 10% in new companies attending.
Mairéad Williams, HR Generalist with Freudenberg Medical, says: “We talk to students about possible placements and future graduate jobs that we will have coming up. It is important for us to be here to mingle with students, get our name out there, see what they are looking for and what roles we have that match up to what they want. Graduates can bring a fresh way of thinking and new ideas to our processes”.
