Inaugural Atlantic Games Unites ATU Campuses for a Celebration of Sport

ATU Atlantic Games Medals

Atlantic Technological University (ATU) successfully hosted the inaugural Atlantic Games, bringing together students from ATU’s Donegal, Galway, Mayo, and Sligo campuses for a vibrant day of recreational sport in ATU Sligo.

Under the theme of “Unite, Compete, Conquer”, the event, organised by ATU Sport, featured basketball, volleyball, soccer, tag rugby, and relay races, with over 200 students participating.

A unique aspect of the Atlantic Games was the student-led approach, with learners from various sporting disciplines taking active roles in planning, managing, and delivering the event.

Bachelor of Business (BBus) in Event Management with Public Relations students (ATU Galway) coordinated the logistics and execution, Bachelor of Science in Athletic Therapy and Exercise Rehabilitation students (ATU Donegal) provided essential first aid support and BBus in Sports with Business students (ATU Sligo) officiated the games as referees.

The event which took place on 12 March saw all participants presented with the Atlantic Games medal by Dr Orla Flynn, ATU President.

Rory McMorrow, Student Services Manager commented “This event showcased the spirit of collaboration across ATU campuses, providing students with hands-on experience while promoting active lifestyles and social engagement.  The success of the inaugural Atlantic Games sets the foundation for future events, reinforcing ATU’s commitment to student engagement, well-being, and inter-campus connections through sport”.
