“The Word” Launches ATU Student Liv-Andrea Banner’s Debut Novel

Sligo Central Library is set to host its latest edition of The Word on Wednesday, March 26, at 6:30 pm, showcasing a compelling evening of literature, discussion, and live music. The event will feature a conversation with Dr Keith Hopper, a lecturer on the Writing & Literature programme at ATU, as well as the official book launch of De Skyldiges Klub (Guilt Society), the debut novel by ATU student Liv-Andrea Banner.
Dr Keith Hopper, an author and editor, has made significant contributions to the study of Irish literature and film. His works include Flann O’Brien: A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Post-modernist and A Door Opening: Sligo and the Legacies of Partition. During the event, he will discuss the intricacies of literature and biography, offering insights into the craft of writing.
A highlight of the evening will be the launch of De Skyldiges Klub (Guilt Society) by Liv-Andrea Banner. Born and raised in Aarhus, Denmark, Banner is currently completing her BA (Hons) in Writing & Literature at ATU. Her novel marks an exciting debut, adding a fresh voice to contemporary literature.
Music will be provided by well-known Sligo musicians Ray Coen and Seamie O’Dowd. Coen, a singer, guitarist, and fiddler, is best known as a member of NoCrows and has toured extensively across Europe. O’Dowd, a multi-instrumentalist, has shared stages with renowned musicians and contributed to various music and film projects.
The event will conclude with an interactive Q&A session, allowing the audience to engage with the featured guests. The Word is a collaborative initiative between Sligo Central Library and ATU Sligo’s BA in Writing & Literature course. Admission is free, and while seating is limited, the event will also be streamed live on Facebook via the Sligo County Library page.
