Irish Rail and Heritage Maps

The Irish Historical Rail Map, developed by ATU Galway City students in collaboration with Iarnród Éireann and supported by the Heritage Council, showcases Ireland’s rail history online. Featuring past and present rail lines, stations, and major structures, the resource fosters heritage research, public engagement, and future expansion with user-contributed content.

The Interactive Heritage Map includes data from a number of historical data points that Atlantic Technological University (ATU) have compiled into one data source. The maps include data from various gauge railways including Irish gauge (blue), narrow gauge (pink) and tramway (orange) overlaid on the modern rail infrastructure (Yellow). Users can toggle this information using the interactive legend on the left.
