Collection Highlights
The Library strives to provide excellent and relevant collections to support the learning, teaching, and research needs of the University. All our collections are discoverable through our online library. You will be guided to the location of the physical items. Once logged in with your ATU credentials you will have seamless access to our online collections.
Books
Books are useful to find information on a topic, to put a topic in context with other important issues, to find historical information, and/or to find summaries of research to support on your subject.
Databases
Library databases are online collections that search quality journal and other academic sources. There are so many databases because there is so much information. There is no one database that covers all the resources available. Some databases will be directly focused on your subject, while others such as Academic Search Complete cover a wider range of subjects so are useful for multi-disciplinary topics and topics that don’t fit a specific subject.
eBooks
The Library has access to thousands of online books via several eBook collections to read and download for free with your current ATU login. There are many benefits to eBooks including instant online access, the ability to search an entire eBook for a specific keywords, download titles to your personal device or even print selected pages.

Exam Papers
Past exam papers are available online to current fully registered ATU staff and students. Click on your campus to view exam papers.

Journals & eJournals
A journal is a collection of articles written by researchers and academics on a specific topic or subject. Journals are often referred to as periodicals or serials because they are published at regular intervals – weekly, monthly or annually. There are a selected number of print journals for viewing in the Library, with thousands online.

Maps
This collection includes different types of maps, both historical and current in print and online through mapping agreements.

Multimedia
This collection consists of DVDs, feature films, videos, audiobooks and CD-roms, to support a board range of subject areas for study and research purposes in addition to a variety of general interest material.

We advocate for and provide access to OER, offering freely available learning materials that enhance student learning and reduce financial barriers.
Research @THEA
Research@THEA is an Irish open access repository containing research from Atlantic Technological University, South-East Technological University (Carlow Campus), and Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest (Athlone).
Special Collections
Special Collections are unique resources offering research and discovery through rare books, archives and other primary sources.
Standards
Standards are codes of best practice containing technical specifications and guidelines. They are used to ensure consistency, reliability, and provide a quality benchmark.
Theses
The Library receives a copy of major theses awarded at ATU. This collection comprises thousands of volumes of primary research in all taught subject areas.
