Access Pathways
Access Programme
This Access for Higher Education course is intended for students who wish to return to study at third level, but who need time and knowledge to get up the speed with the demands of education format.
HEAR Admissions
The Higher Education Access Route (HEAR) aims to promote wider participation among students from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. As ATU participates in the HEAR scheme, several places in each course are allocated to HEAR students.
All applicants should visit the official HEAR Website for full details on how to apply and to keep up to date on current HEAR applicant information.
Mature Students
ATU welcomes mature applicants each year and values their contribution to academic and the social environment of the University. Whether you want to gain a new qualification for your career or study something you have always been passionate about, we have the supports in place to help you succeed.
In ATU, a mature student is someone aged 23 years or above on 1 January in the year of entry, who wishes to pursue a full-time undergraduate degree programme.
Further Education (FET) Entry
There are many different pathways available for those with Further Education (QQI) qualifications. Students can use a qualification from a Further Education and Training (FET) or Post-Leaving Certificate (PLC) course to apply for entry to a programme in ATU.
Tertiary Degrees
Tertiary degree programmes are ideal for individuals who have a strong interest or previous experience in the subject area.
You may have completed a part-time course in your local ETB or have experience working in a related field, maybe you have not considered third level education due to family and/or other caring duties; perhaps you work in a family business or have farm responsibilities; maybe the financial costs associated with accommodation or childcare are holding you back; or you have additional needs or a medical condition.
Tertiary degree programmes allow you to complete year one close to home in your local ETB before choosing to specialise at an ATU campus of your choice.
