ATU St Angela’s Student’s Union is the official Students’ Union on the campus. The role of the Students’ Union is to:

  1. To represent the interest of its members on matters relating to their education and to protect and further their rights as students and citizens.
  2. To provide the recognised representative channel between its members and the campus authorities and members of any other external body.
  3. To defend the right of students to organise social, cultural, political and sporting associations of their choice at ATU St Angelas and their right to use campus amenities and facilities compatible with the interests of ATU St Angelas students.
  4. To develop and expand the welfare service / office and other services available to its members.
  5. To provide such social and recreational amenities as may be possible from the resources available.
  6. To promote and encourage the role of the Students’ Union within the National Union (Union of Students in Ireland) and to use this facility to its fullest potential to benefit the Union and its members by regular publications and notices.

The Students’ Union represents the interests of students on campus within ATU St Angelas and externally. The union plays a vital role in student engagement on campus through organising social events, organising welfare and education campaigns and funding and aiding in the development of clubs and societies on campus at ATU St Angelas.

The Student’s Union Officers are elected by the student body annually. All students are eligible to run for election and are encouraged to get involved in the many events that the Students’ Union organise. The elected officers support the student experience in their relevant role and aid the other members of the executive in rolling out events and campaigns. Class Representatives are elected students who represent their class and are members of Class Representative Council. Class Representative Council is the Governing Body of the Students’ Union where the Students’ Union Executive are answerable and issues facing students are brought forward. Becoming a Class Rep can be a great way to get involved in college life on campus and get to know all of the members of your class. ATU St Angelas Students’ Union are members of the Union of Students in Ireland (USI) and engage in campaigns, lobbying and training with USI. The Executive attend National Council and National Congress where the direct of the Union of Students in Ireland is decided upon. The Union of Students in Ireland represents 374,000 students across the island of Ireland and work on a number of issues facing students in Ireland.

The Students’ Union area is located on the bottom floor of Áras Bhríd and has a number of facilities available for students including a common room where students can watch TV, play snooker or table tennis and make use of the kitchen facilities and a shop a wide variety of stationary, class resources, water, drinks, snacks, and sweets. Services such as binding, laminating and A3 colour copying are also provided here. The Students’ Union General Manager, President and Vice President for Welfare and Equality have an office located here too and students are always welcome to call in if they have any issues.

ATU St Angela’s Students Union is affiliated with USI Union of Students in Ireland and also maintains a strong relationship with the respective student union body at ATU Sligo.
