Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Electronic Engineering
Tell us a little bit about yourself and what led you to choosing your degree.
I entered my course straight after finishing my leaving cert, it was definitely a big change when compared to secondary school.
What was your overall experience of studying at ATU Donegal?
So far, my experience of studying at ATU have been quite positive, I think the atmosphere of the college is good and it always feels like something is happening as it’s so busy all the time. The other students in my group are really friendly and I’m looking forward to coming back for 4th year.
Why did you choose to study your programme?
I chose Electronic Engineering as I was fascinated by how so many different electronic devices impact our daily lives, and being able to learn about how these components can be used and developed to create new and better things greatly interested me.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
I believe that Electronic Engineering is an excellent programme to build the necessary skills to branch out into a wide array of different industries. It gives you a great understanding of the underlying field at a ground level that makes it easy to move into more specialised areas such as purely programming or embedded systems design.
My favourite part of this course would be the 3rd year project modules that electronic students undertake in their time at ATU. This module really gives you the opportunity to become very skilled in your own field of study, it is great to work on something that you are passionate about, and to be able to see the end product after working on it throughout the year.
In my second year of this course, I struggled a lot with the workload and decided to repeat the year as I felt I could have done better. The services available to me were excellent and I believe that it was the best decision I’ve ever made.
