Rhys Irwin
Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Quantity Surveying
Tell us a little bit about yourself and what led you to choosing your degree. Came to ATU straight from my Leaving Cert in Loreto Milford.
What was your overall experience of studying at ATU Donegal?
My four years at ATU University in Letterkenny were extremely enjoyable. I really appreciated the supportive environment and the wealth of knowledge I gained. The ATU staff were very accommodating, especially with my sporting commitments, allowing me to balance both my academic and motorcycle racing aspirations.
What inspired you/reason for choosing the programme of study:
I chose to pursue a degree in Quantity Surveying at ATU because of my interest for construction and the built environment. The program at ATU provided the perfect platform for me to develop these skills and follow my passion.
Did you have any unique experiences while being a student at ATU Donegal?
During my third year at ATU, I had the unique opportunity to work as a trainee quantity surveyor at KCS Construction Consultancy. This year-long work placement was a pivotal part of my degree, allowing me to gain hands-on experience and apply my academic knowledge in a real-world setting. Working as a PQS at KCS Construction Consultancy not only refined my skills but also deepened my understanding of the profession, making it an invaluable experience.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
I want to express my gratitude to the lecturers and staff at ATU. Their support and flexibility allowed me to balance my academic commitments with my sporting commitments. Their understanding and accommodation was crucial in enabling me to pursue both my degree and my sporting ambitions successfully.
