Grants and Funding
Third Level Student Grants
SUSI
Students can make a grant application online to Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI).
Student grants are divided into maintenance grants, fee grants and the postgraduate contributions.
SUSI opens their online application in April, and it closes in November.
Please see Home | SUSI for further information.
Undergraduate Students from Northern Ireland & Great Britain
Students from Northern Ireland & Great Britain can apply for funding to support their fees through the Student Loans Company.
Student Loans Company – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Student Finance Northern Ireland (studentfinanceni.co.uk)
Third-Party Sponsored Students including Employer/Skillnet/Springboard
Where a third party/sponsor will be paying a student’s fee, a sponsor detail form must be completed and submitted to the Registrations, Fees and Grants Offices. This form can be requested from the relevant Fees Office by emailing
gspdfees.galwaymayo@atu.ie (Online, Flexible and Professional Development)
On receipt of this form, the Fees Office will issue an invoice to the Sponsor/Third Party which must be paid within 30 days of its issuing. Payment terms may differ depending on agreements.
The student remains liable for their fees, and in the event a sponsor defaults on a payment, restrictions will be applied to the student’s account.
Springboard Funded Students
- If you are completing a NFQ Level 6 programme, it is fully funded by the HEA, and you are not required to make any payment towards your tuition fees.
- If you are completing a NFQ Level 7 – 9 programme it is 90% funded by the HEA. If you are employed, you will be required to pay the remaining 10% of your tuition fees which will be applied to your student account. If you are unemployed, no payment will be required.
