Regina Barrera , Country: Mexico | BA (Hons) in English and Psychology
As a final-year international student in the BA (Hons) in English and Psychology, I can confidently say that ATU has exceeded my expectations. I always dreamed of studying abroad, particularly in an English-speaking country, and Sligo stood out to me immediately. I love nature and a peaceful lifestyle, and the Sligo campus offers the perfect balance. It’s a small town with breathtaking scenery, yet there’s always something to do, whether it’s visiting the cinema, hiking, or surfing. From the moment I arrived, I knew I had made the right choice.
The lecturers here are truly passionate and knowledgeable, and their dynamic teaching methods encourage engagement and creativity. I’ve had the opportunity to study fascinating subjects like Research Methods in Psychology, Biological Basis of Behaviour, Contemporary Irish Literature, and Cultural Studies, all of which have enriched my academic journey.
As an international student from Mexico, the warm, friendly atmosphere has made me feel right at home. I’ve made friends from all over the world, improved my English, and even met my partner here in Ireland. And, as a Student Ambassador and now Senior International Student Ambassador at ATU Sligo, I’ve been able to give back to the community while also growing both personally and professionally.

Jaden Mascarenhas , Country: Dubai | Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Gastronomy Science and Food Innovation
During my studies I have enjoyed getting the opportunity to compete in several competitions and work and learn from some great lecturers. My favourite modules have been all the practical ones especially the art of pastry, baking and desserts.
Following the completion of my 12-week placement at Ashford Castle, I gained valuable experience that played a pivotal role in my achievement as a finalist in the 2022 World Skills competition. To any students considering the course I would advise to come in with an open mind, taste everything and try your best to improve a little bit every day.
