Certificate in Downstream Processing
Description
This module aims to provide the student with a fundamental understanding of both the theory and practical aspects of protein purification processing as it pertains to the manufacture of modern biopharmaceutical products.
This course in NIBRT is designed to deliver an introduction to the typical downstream operations used in a biopharmaceutical production process. This course includes both hands-on practical and lecture components covering topics such as harvest, ultrafiltration/diafiltration, viral clearance and chromatography.
During this course, trainees will be introduced to the basics of filtration and chromatography in a theory session before building on this knowledge and performing these operations using a practical component.
Learning Outcomes
- Outline the main stages of downstream processing for biologics.
- Describe the main harvesting techniques used for purification of a biologic.
- Explain the basic theory and practice of column chromatography for biologic purification operations.
- Outline the theory and practice of ultrafiltration and diafiltration operations for biologics.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible, applicants must have completed the Mandatory Practical attendance for this module with NIBRT within the previous 12 months.
Please Note: If you wish to apply for more than one module on this programme (Downstream Processing/ Upstream Processing/ Fill Finish Operations/ Cleanroom Behaviour) please detail all modules on one application form.
