General Learning Disabilities

Programme Overview

The General Learning Disabilities module aims to develop knowledge and understanding of General Learning Disabilities and the implications for teaching and learning. Understandings of General Learning Disabilities are presented and explored in the context of current educational policy and legislation. Participants are introduced to a broad range of approaches designed to facilitate the inclusion of learners with General Learning Disabilities across all educational settings. This is delivered using online components and face-to-face workshops.

Please Note: We will not be accepting new applications for this module for the 2024-2025 academic year as the current module structure is undergoing a redesign. Applications will open for the 2025-2026 academic year when the new module has been developed. We will advertise the new programme in 2025 on our website and we look forward to welcoming new students for September 2025.

Requirements and Assessment

Continuous assessment will apply throughout the programme. It will combine coursework on relevant aspects of Special Educational Needs with e-tivities, discussion boards, portfolio/project-based learning, literature reviews and case studies, which will be carried out within an appropriate educational context during the academic year.  The concept of the ‘reflective practitioner’ will be a basic criterion permeating all forms of assessment.
