Tourism and Hospitality Student Stories

Hear about the experience of some of our Tourism and Hospitality students and graduates.
ATU Tourism student Rummy McCullagh

I’ve always been captivated with all types of events. During my studies, I joined the Order of Malta Ambulance Corps, managing grant funding, medical teams and resources at large scale events. I have since worked with Failte Ireland, St Patrick’s Festival Dublin and Body & Soul Festival. The wide variety of modules in this programme make you a well-rounded business person as I have already worked in events, marketing & communications, sales, logistics and have since set up a very successful video and film production company. It’s a perfect choice for entrepreneurs, project and event managers, and modern digital marketers.

ATU Tourism Student David Keaney

I was delighted to finish out my programme completing a placement serving the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins. The placement involved looking after the President and guests as a member of the household staff of Áras an Uachtaráin where I received in-depth and hands-on experience at the highest levels of service.

ATU Student Jaden Mascarenhas

During my studies, I have enjoyed getting the opportunity to compete in several competitions and work and learn from some great lecturers. My favourite modules have been all the practical ones especially the art of pastry, baking and desserts. Following the completion of my 12-week placement at Ashford Castle, I gained valuable experience that played a pivotal role in my achievement as a finalist in the 2022 World Skills competition.

ATU Student Timea Jurcova

What attracted me to the degree was the variety of modules we get to explore. I’m really enjoying studying Irelands linguistic tradition at the moment as well as Irish and European History. A key component of the programme is going on field trips, which are informative and help to place our studies in context.
