This is a specialised Honours Degree programme with a heavy emphasis on the academic aspects of business modules. It is aimed at business professionals who wish to formalise their learning with a national Honours Degree qualification. It is delivered online over a two-year period. This programme provides upskilling for those involved in any aspect of business, particularly in the areas of management, marketing, supply chain, eBusiness and finance.
Important: Modules are delivered over the two years of the programme. Students complete 2-3 modules or 15 credits per semester. Please note that this programme is designed to allow new students to enter every year. This means that modules are delivered every second year. Most students complete the programme within the 2-year timeframe. However, if you need to defer part of the course, you will not be able to take the module(s) again until it is running in the designated year. For example, modules running in 2021/22 will not run again until 2023/24.

Strategic Marketing ManagementThis module provides skills in analytical comprehension of marketing management theory and critical skills in evaluating, formulating and interpreting marketing policy. It develops the critical evaluation skills of students in the application of marketing strategies to real life situations. The importance of gathering marketing intelligence will allow the student to explore the process of marketing decision-making, and, the use of case studies, lecturers, presentations, role play and discussion will enable the student to apply marketing theory to a wide range of problems. Strategic Human Resource ManagementThis subject aims to introduce students to the key ideas of Human Resource Management as a strategic component of business activity and to develop their capacities to think and act strategically. Supply Chain ManagementThis course will examine the strategic importance of good supply chain design, planning and operation for organisations. It focuses on the improvement of enterprise and supply chain performance by coordinating information and material flows, managing supplier relations and logistics, and forming strategic alliances with partners. It will provide students with the abilities to critically evaluate the strategic importance of effective supply chain management and the various approaches, opportunities and challenges supply chains face in modern organisations. Explainthecentral role of the customer in the supply chain and the importance of strategic alignment with other organisational functions in delivering customer value 3. Business Finance (online)The student will develop a knowledge and understanding of the financial management methods for analysing the benefits of various sources of finance and capital investment opportunities, appreciate the importance of good working capital management and apply management accounting techniques for business planning and control. E-business and InnovationThis module will introduce students to the practical and theoretical world of e-commerce. Student will gain knowledge of the factors underpinning the e-commerce sector, the economic importance of e-commerce and its business models. It will introduce students into the legal and ethical framework surrounding of e-Commerce. The practical element of the module will involve the students building fully operational e-commerce sites. This will be completed as group projects using open source software, like WordPress and WooCommerce. Torthaí Foghlama 1. Students will gain knowledge and understanding of how companies are financed, the cost of finance, the different capital structures, the financial objectives and the need to focus on ethics, environmental, social and good governance. MacroeconomicsThis module will provide the student with an understanding of the challenges and issues involved in macroeconomic management at national and international level. Students will be able to critically evaluate different economic systems and the policy options that may be pursued in the achievement of macroeconomic objectives. Students will evaluate the benefits of international trade and the role of exchange rates in the context of economic development and globalisation. Torthaí Foghlama 1. Minimum Academic Entry Requirement: Level 7 ordinary degree qualification (previously called a national diploma) on the NFQ (National Framework of Qualifications/ or equivalent (180 credits), ideally in a business-related discipline (other disciplines will also be considered).
Applicants with other qualifications and with relevant work experience may also be considered through ATU Sligos Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) process. RPL is a process that may allow you to gain admission to a programme or to receive exemptions / credit from some parts of a programme based on demonstrated learning that you may have achieved through another programme of study or through your work and career.
