With an increased emphases on teaching computing in schools, there is increasing demand for teachers to introduce coding as part of the curriculum. This 10 credit special purpose level-8 award is designed to assist teachers in developing their knowledge of mobile applications development.
This module aims to enhance and support the work of a teacher by employing a pedagogy that incorporates the block coding concepts of MIT App Inventor and the problem solving methodology of Swift Playgrounds. Students will become acquainted with the structure and components of mobile applications through the MIT App Inventor Designer interface. They will learn to design simple applications, which can then be deployed onto Android devices. The student will learn key coding concepts while demonstrating the ability to solve problems using a mobile methodology, by incorporating sensors and interacting with on-board applications.
It is possible to do this module without any prior programming knowledge.
Hardware needed: Students will develop Mobile applications for the android platform , so will need access to an Android phone or tablet. An Android device can be provided by ATU for the duration of the course if required.
