With an increased emphasis on teaching computing in schools, there is increasing demand for teachers to introduce digital citizenship as part of the curriculum. This 10 credit special purpose level-8 award is designed to assist teachers in developing their knowledge of digital literacy and pertinent factors effecting online activities. Specifically the objectives of the course are to:

Equip learners with the ability to develop an understanding of relevant and pertinent laws.
To evaluate and appreciate the concepts of privacy and freedom of speech in a digital world.
To assist learners in developing critical thinking skills for cyberspace.
To assist learners independently devise strategies and lesson plans to raise awareness of digital citizenship in schools.

No prior knowledge is required. We are assuming little or no knowledge of the area.

1	Digital Citizenship This module will guide learners to become a digital citizen that understands the rights and responsibilities of inhabiting cyberspace. The main material covered in the module will seek to develop the learners' knowledge as it pertains to implementing and instilling digital citizenship at primary and post-primary level. Evaluate digital citizenship implementation in schools. 4. Evaluate and appreciate the concepts of privacy and freedom of speech in a digital world. 5. Develop critical thinking skills for cyberspace. 6. Independently devise strategies and lesson plans to raise awareness of digital citizenship in schools.	10	Mandatory

Note: Where assessment on the programme involves examinations, these are held on campus or at another exam venue in the Republic of Ireland. There are typically two exam periods: January and May. Times scheduled for examinations (face to face / online exams ) are in GMT.
