This module, for learners with no previous knowledge of Spanish, offers a foundation in the language, building a core vocabulary and fundamental grammatical structures. It also introduces the learner to Spanish speaking countries.

1. Engage in simple conversation about personal circumstances.
2. Demonstrate comprehension of recorded sources in Spanish by answering written questions on content in English.
3. Demonstrate comprehension of simple written texts in Spanish.
4. Complete cloze tests and write simple sentences and short passages in Spanish.
5. Demonstrate general knowledge of Spain.

This module expands the core vocabulary and involves further practice in basic grammatical structures, enabling the learner to deal with primary encounters in the language. Learners will study aspects of the culture of Spanish speaking countries.

1. Respond appropriately to oral questions or comments relating to family, surroundings and schedules.
2. Demonstrate comprehension of recorded sources in Spanish by answering written questions on content.
3. Apply basic rules of grammar and demonstrate acquisition of core vocabulary through cloze tests and by writing sentences and short texts in Spanish.
