Emergency department nursing is a specialty where nurses need to be competent in caring for patients that present suddenly and acutely unwell. There is a need to develop additional clinical expertise among emergency nurses. This 6 month course aims to provide essential education and clinical skills required by nurses in line with best evidence based practice.
Courses will be offered once a year – commencing in January depending on demand. The course will be delivered over 26 weeks using a blended learning approach. This includes lectures, online learning and skills practice.
The theoretical aspect of this course is assessed through written assignments. The clinical component is assessed in practice via a Competency Development Workbook.
The Indicative course content includes: Triage in the Emergency Department; Non-life/limb threatening Injuries; Emergency Medicine Early Warning System (EMEWS); Tissue viability; Cardiovascular Assessment; Mental Health; Sepsis; Quality Improvement; The older person presenting with delirium and dementia; Stress management; and future development needs.

Clinical Placement Emergency NursingThe aim of Clinical Placement is to provide the student with exposure to clinical placement in emergency nursing so that s/he continues to develop confidence and competence in the practice of nursing Torthaí Foghlama 1. Demonstrate knowledge and appreciation of the virtues of caring, compassion, integrity, honesty, respect and empathy as a basis for upholding the professional values of nursing and identity as a nurse. |
