Forbhreathnú Cúrsa
This module will introduce learners to the fundamental principles of law and human resource management. This course involves approximately 2 days per month attendance at our ATU Mayo Campus in addition to online delivery.
The module will familiarise students with the sources of law and will illustrate how law provides the legal framework for the business environment. The module will also familiarise learners with the fundamentals of Human Resource Management. The introduction to the law in the first part of the module will provide an essential context for the manner in which Human Resource Management is delivered.

Law and Human Resource ManagementThe module will familiarise learners with the historical development and fundamentals of modern Human Resource Management. It will also introduce learners to the fundamental principles of employment law which frames decision-making in respect of human resource management. The introduction to law in the first part of the module will provide an essential context for the manner in which Human Resource Management is delivered. The module will acquaint students with the way in which HRM furthers organisational objectives. Torthaí Foghlama 1. Appreciate the role of employment law and articulate a sensitivity to legal considerations in decision making at work. 2. Classify and describe the sources of law, legal institutions and the roles of legal professionals. 3. Articulate the nature of the law that governs dismissal and equality. 4. Explain the historical development of human resource managementand how HRM theory informs practice. 5. Explain how the internal and external business environment influences human resource management, and in particular how law frames HR practice. 6. Evaluate how effective HR practice contributes to the achievement of organisational objectives. |

The minimum Leaving Certificate entry requirement is Grade O6/H7 or better in five Leaving Certificate subjects including Mathematics and English or Irish with a minimum of 160 points. A pass in any QQI FET Major award at Level 5 or 6 will meet the minimum entry requirement for this programme. International students holding cognate qualifications at the appropriate level will be considered for entry. Mature applicants are welcome and encouraged to apply. For further details on entry requirements for mature applicants, please see the course webpage. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) can be used as a means to gain entry to the programme or gain exemptions.
