This programme (run over three Saturdays over 3 semesters) is aimed at anyone interested in developing a basic knowledge of current relevant sports nutrition guidelines and their practical application.
This programme will also be of interest to professionals, as well as sports athletes, wishing to upskill or for continuing professional development e.g. Physical Education Teachers. The programme will provide you with the basic skills, knowledge in relation to current relevant evidence based sports nutrition guidelines. This programme specialises in developing skills and competencies across essential areas pertaining to current evidence based sports nutrition guidelines.

Current Concepts in Sports NutritionThe aim of this module is to provide learners with a fundamental understanding of the concepts of nutrition for sports performance. Torthaí Foghlama 1. Differentiate at a fundamental level energy balance and energy imbalance. |

Applied Sports NutritionThis module supports the practical application of knowledge acquired in the two previous modules and gives an introduction to research skills. Students will be required to plan and conduct either a piece of scientifically rigorous work. Students will be required to complete a case study or action learning research project in a specific area of sports nutrition e.g. Energy expenditure, Recovery, Hydration, Periodization of Nutrition, etc. Torthaí Foghlama 1. Note: Where assessment on the programme involves examinations, these are held on campus or at another exam venue in the Republic of Ireland. There are typically two exam periods: January and May. Times scheduled for examinations (face to face / online exams ) are in GMT.

5 Ordinary Level D3 in the Leaving Certificate, including Maths and English or Irish, FETAC Level 5 or equivalent.
Candidates must be currently engaged in sport in a coaching, teaching or advanced performance capacity and must have at least 2 years coaching, teaching or advanced performance capacity experience.
Gairmeacha
The main employment areas are in sports, leisure, health-care, fitness and sports nutrition.
