This module will give the student an under standing of the fundamental principles of physics. The module will enable the student to solve practical problems based on the concepts studied. It will also help familiarise the student with practical measurement and experimentation techniques used in the physics laboratory.

1. Recognise the need for a system of units and the importance of accuracy in calculations and measurements.
2. Describe the underlying physical principles applicable to stable and unstable systems .
3. Describe the relationship between temperature, heat and changes of state.
4. Conduct a laboratory experiment in a careful and competent fashion .

This module develops students knowledge and skills to address key issues in energy systems. It introduces students to the major concerns arising from environmental effects and depletion of carbon-based energy sources. Students will gain an overview of the complexities in choosing and developing alternative energy sources.

1. Analyse the benefits and differences between various energy sources, including BER assessment.
2. Evaluate the factors affecting economics in renewable energies including DEAP assessment.
3. Analyse the environmental impact of different renewable energy systems.
4. Appraise the key economic issues involved in renewable energy systems, including discount cash flow projection.
