There is an increasing requirement for small and medium-sized business owners, managers and HR personnel to have an up-to-date knowledge of employment law and policy. This fast-paced and rapidly-changing area is no-longer only the remit of the HR manager, instead it has become an area which all managers require the knowledge and skills to structure the workplace in a manner likely to avoid legal problems and enhance employee well-being. This programme will equip workers, managers and business owners with the requisite legal knowledge and skills to succeed in the increasingly complex legal arena of employment law and HR.

Human Resource ManagementThis module will introduce learners to the role of the HR function outlining the journey from personnel management to Human Resources Management. Learners will gain a deeper understanding of the role of the HR function by examining the core HRM activities and concepts and how they apply to practice. It will help learners evaluate the effectiveness of different HR models and practices, and increase your understanding of the external factors that impact upon HR activities and organisations. Employment Legislation & PoliciesThis module aims to acquaint Learners with the function of employment law and labour law in the context of both the individual and collective labour relationship. The module will critically analyse the key principles of employment law and labour law and teach and assess both Irish and EU legislative developments and their impact on the employment relationship. Equality LawThis module critically examines legal attempts to combat discrimination and promote equality in the workplace; in particular, it focuses on the rules of Irish and EU Equality and anti-discrimination law. It examines the structural nature and practice of discrimination, equality, bullying and harassment and assesses the role and effectiveness of law in tackling and remedying this phenomenon. Employee Well-BeingThis Module will examine how employee wellbeing can impact workplace performance and company success, including contributing factors to wellbeing in the workplace; managing bullying and harassment, health and safety issues in the workplace place including the legal obligations on businesses to create and maintain organisations that prioritise health and safety and well-being. 5 O6/H7 in the Leaving Certificate, to include Mathematics (F2/O6/H7) and either Irish or English (O6/H7), OR QQIFET Level 5, OR equivalent qualification.
Candidates who do not meet the above entry requirements may be admitted to the programme on the grounds of mature years (over 23 by 1st January in the proposed year of entry). RPL will be considered in accordance with the Quality Assurance of ATU Donegal.
