Cyber EthicsThis module serves as an introduction to the important role of ethical behaviour in the cyber world. Cyber ethics is an area of increasing interest due to the rapid growth of human interaction with online environments. This module provides an outline of the responsibility for ethical behaviour from both individuals and corporate bodies as well as the legislation designed to govern the cyber world. The module explores the advantages and disadvantages of ethical research online and the codes of conduct therein. It then examines various digital addictions, their cause and consequence, big data ownership and use, the role of the digital citizen and the sustainability and future of the cyber world. The rapid growth of the cyber world and the increasing human dependency on it provide many challenges in both personal behaviour and governance and legislation. The Cyber Ethics module will explore these areas and develop students understanding of the ethical theories and their application in real life settings. Torthaí Foghlama 1. Defend the need for ethical behaviour in the cyber world. |

Human Computer InteractionThis module will examine in depth, HCI design techniques, interaction techniques and various aspects of social media, artificial intelligence, assistive technologies and cyber-pathologies. Students will study the concept of usability and how to measure it. They will study social and emotional interactions and how they relate to the user experience. They will learn about data gathering, analysis, interpretation, presentation and the ethics of data collection. Torthaí Foghlama 1. Explain and critique Interaction Design principles. |

Artificial Intelligence and Ethical ResponsibilityThe goal of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is to develop and implement machines that behave as though they are intelligent that have the capability to solve problems that are normally associated with the higher intellectual processing capabilities of humans. This raises fundamental questions about our responsibility towards these systems, how they should behave, what risks they can create, and how we can control them. This module will provide the student with a good understanding of some tools used for AI development and implementation. The student will gain a comprehensive understanding of the components of an AI system. Furthermore, the student will explore the importance of ethical behaviour of an AI system, and the importance of ethical responsibility within such systems. Torthaí Foghlama 1. Critique the role of Artificial Intelligence for human interaction. |

UX DesignThis module provides an understanding of context and methodology for contemporary software design. It explains the shift from a purely functional software design model to software design as part of complex socio-technical contexts. Students will be asked to think deeply on design solutions regarding the computer interface and how it can best be deployed to the demands of modern users and applications. The module is structured around a contemporary design methodology suited to user focused application development. It will engage the student in user focused testing strategies and the practice of responding to those strategies. It will educate the student in communication practices that facilitate collaborative work in this domain. The student will apply a UX design strategy to a given software interface problem in team workshops. Almost half of the module will be occupied by these workshops. Torthaí Foghlama 1. Identify, analyse and consider the implications of an emerging technology for the human computer interface. |

Social CyberPsychologyThis module aims to develop students' understanding of the dynamic group and individual processes underlying online behaviour and offer an opportunity to apply social psychological theories to the digital world. Social psychology is broadly defined as the study of social behaviour and is central to the study of digital social contexts. Social psychology is situated at the crossroads of related disciplines such as cognitive psychology, sociology and social anthropology and therefore can offer insights into how our lives are affected by the cyber world Digital interactions are embedded in our lives and not only influence our communications and interactions but also are impacted by human social and cognitive processes. Torthaí Foghlama 1. Analyse how we create and manage our digital selves and online identities |

Behaviour Across the Cyber LifespanThis module will develop student's understanding and knowledge of how humans behave online. It will examine the increasing role of technology, health surveillance and E-therapies in personal health. The module will then analyse the growth of E-learning, the ability of educators to harness such technology and the evidence base for its effectiveness. The changes in leisure activities towards online environments will be examined followed by an exploration of the surge in online working. The module will then consider online consumer behaviour and how our online behaviour changes through the lifespan. Torthaí Foghlama 1. Assess the impact of health surveillance in terms of cost, benefit and ethical considerations. |

DissertationThis module involves working on a research dissertation over an extended period. Working under the guidance of an academic supervisor, the module allows the student to develop theoretical and applied skills in using contemporary computing science techniques both from a theoretical perspective and as an applied discipline. The dissertation represents the capstone work on a topic related to their chosen programme of study. Torthaí Foghlama 1. Develop appropriate data collection instruments for mixed methods research and to evaluate each for their appropriateness to the research question; |
