ATU’s MyCareerPath receives €1million funding boost
ATU’s online, flexible careers service, MyCareerPath.ie (MCP), has received a significant boost following the announcement that the Higher Education Authority (HEA) is committing an additional €1million to further development of this online platform over the next two years.

Atlantic Technological University’s online, flexible careers service, MyCareerPath.ie (MCP), has received a significant boost following the announcement that the Higher Education Authority (HEA) is committing an additional €1million to further development of this online platform over the next two years.
Developed under the Higher Education 4.0 Project, which is funded by the Human Capital Initiative (HCI) Pillar 3, this latest allocation will afford ATU’s MyCareerPath the opportunity to create a sustainable strategy and mainstreaming plan for the programme into the future.
Dr Orla Flynn, ATU President, said the funding will offer opportunities for learners at all stages, both within formal education settings and also in the workplace; “This investment by the HEA in MyCareerPath.ie is a testament to ATU’s commitment to providing flexible, accessible career development opportunities for learners at all stages of their educational and professional journeys. By expanding this innovative platform, we aim to strengthen connections between education, industry, and lifelong learning —ensuring that learners are equipped with the skills and guidance they need to thrive in an evolving workforce.”
In line with the objectives set out by HCI and HEA skills engagement, a key focus of the work for the next two years will be to extend MyCareerPath’s reach, enhance the learner’s pathways, and foster collaboration across the higher education sector.
Welcoming the announcement, Career & Learning Pathways Manager Bridie Killoran said: “The further development and expansion of the platform will allow for its continued growth, including integrating innovations for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Micro-credentials. It is an opportunity to build on the progress already made to date in developing the career and learning pathways platform as well as the mentoring service.
“The continuing development of the MCP platform will also be informed by the National Strategic Framework for Lifelong Guidance: Strategic Action Plan (2024-2030) by supporting career mobility for individuals in the workplace and ensuring greater awareness of upskilling and reskilling opportunities.
“Therefore, learners can continue to make meaningful and well-informed decisions about their educational and careers in an ever-changing world of work,” said Ms Killoran.
A new development plan for MyCareerPath.ie will also explore opportunities with external partners, in particular engaging with other Technological Universities (TUs).
Indeed, one of the primary objectives will be to develop a Roadmap for a National Shared Platform, with further collaborations with the MicroCreds and National RPL HCI Projects also to be investigated.
“The aim is also to enhance MCP features for work placement and employer engagement and develop integrated functionality for job postings, internships, and professional practice pathways,” said Ms Killoran.
“MyCareerPath will also establish a mainstreaming plan for curated student learning pathways supporting key student cohorts,” she added.
Project Director Kyle Griffiths-Maher also welcomed the funding, stating: “This additional funding represents another step forward in our mission to transform career guidance and lifelong learning opportunities through innovation.
“MyCareerPath.ie has already proven its value in supporting learners, and with this investment, we can expand its reach, enhance its capabilities, and strengthen collaboration across the higher education sector.”
