Kris Allison, Senior Technical Officer at Atlantic Technological University (ATU), alongside 12 other volunteers, is set to embark on a 13 day hike to Everest Base Camp to fundraise in aid of Bluestack Foundation.

On 5 March, Kris and participating volunteers will begin the journey by flying over to Katmandu where they will meet their guides. Continuing to Lukla airport, famously known as one of the most dangerous airports in the world mainly due to its location, they will then start a 13 day trek to Everest Base Camp.

In preparation for the expedition, Kris has been training since July last year, “We were advised to do as many hikes as possible. Between myself and my son, who is also participating, we have been out hiking, walking and running, any type of cardio to help increase our fitness levels.”

Whilst looking forward to the experience ahead, the intensity of the journey is not lost on Kris, “I feel by undertaking this amazing challenge I am not only pushing myself harder than I ever have before, but I am also raising much needed funds for the Bluestack Foundation which for me showcases there is reward over risk. I am no stranger to endurance, however, hiking to the foot of the highest mountain in the world certainly trumps these past achievements.”

Bluestack Foundation, located in The Glebe, Donegal Town, provides direct supports to individuals with disabilities, their families and carers.
